bio

I am a new designer with excellent understanding of product
design methods and meeting user needs. After graduating from
Auburn University with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design I
decided to continue my education, earning my Master's of Industrial Design,
again from Auburn University. I am currently freelancing in the field of
web design with clients such as Mama's American Table in Huntsville, AL.

My design interests:
I just finished my thesis on "Emotional Modularity in Product Design."
It was basically an examination of the emotional durability of modular
product designs that allow the user to customize, and renew their experiences
with products. It also suggests some methods and strategies for implementing
this emotional modularity, and opportunities for innovation and building
brand loyalty.

I am very interested in the idea of "transmaterialization" and "dematerialization"
of products, changing the way we consume by offering intangible consumables.
It was a major part of my thesis. Cloud storage is a good example of this,
in that it eliminates the need for additional (physical) storage devices,
replacing them with a sort of service, in which the user accesses their info
on a remote server. I feel that this solution makes more sense, and gets rid of
a lot of unnecessary physical waste that would otherwise accompany a storage
device's end of life phase. This fits nicely into a "Cradle to Cradle" philosophy
in which "technical mass" is cycled from "cradle to cradle", rather than "cradle to grave."

I am also interested in sustainable design solutions that are better for the planet
and the bottom line. I know that this seems pretty much like a cliché nowadays,
but I am interested in exploring real solutions. I feel that designers are in a unique
position to build brand loyalty among the environmentally conscious, while delivering
better solutions for design problems, which should appeal to all target consumers.

I am interested in the psychology of consumption, and what creates positive user
experiences. What drives people to buy a product to replace something that still offers
usable functionality versus keeping it for example. It lies in the need for new and
exciting experiences. There are sociological, physiological, psychological, and
ideological reasons that I would love to explore.

Since my completion of grad school last December, I have been interested in web design,
and have been creating a website to promote myself, and as a means to develop business
connections. As with most websites, it is in constant development. I have designed it
using Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Flash, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Before joining the Industrial
Design program, I was a computer science major, so I have a little experience in writing
code in various languages.

Basically, I am interested in all aspects of design - research, conceptualization,
and delivering the perfect design solution, and I will be happy in life if I can work
in the design field in any capacity. It's an awesome feeling to know I've helped to
create something great.

My personal interests are:
Creating music and art.
Enjoying the outdoors.
Auto racing.
Traveling.
And I take a personal interest in design as well. I'm always wondering how I could make the things I use better.
